Let’s talk about spring decorating! Are you thinking of making a butterfly wreath or another type of insect? Great idea!

This is the perfect time of year to find inspiration from nature for your next wreath project. From majestic butterflies to adorable ladybugs, and imperial dragonflies, or busy bumblebees, we think these flying friends make for fabulous muses for some springtime decorating. Just think of how sweet a butterfly or insect wreath could look on your front door!

Butterflies are a bit of a favourite, but really, any of these creatures will do for a gorgeous springtime wreath. All it requires is a little imagination, some wreath supplies, and a UITC Wreath Board. So if you’re wondering how to make a stunning butterfly wreath or insect, read on!

What You Need to Make Your Butterfly Wreath

First things first, if you want to make the perfect butterfly or insect wreath, you’re going to need to get the shape right… after all, butterflies and insects aren’t the traditional round or ring wreath shape. Are you ready to celebrate Memorial Day with a patriotic wreath? How about the 4 of July? These holidays are a great way for Americans to celebrate their love of their country, to honor the troops, and to break out the barbecue! But don’t forget that they’re also a great excuse to do some patriotic decorating! Who doesn’t love a little Red, White, and Blue???

So we thought we’d give you some tips on how to make a patriotic wreath for your home decorating and party planning. After all, America sure is beautiful, and you should have a wreath to match! Memorial Day and 4 of July decorating ideas start here!

Red, White & Blue and American Symbolism

When you think of The United States of America, of course the first colors you think of are Red, White, and Blue! At the very minimum, a patriotic wreath includes these traditional colors, as they make it instantly recognizable as a wreath celebrating the great US of A.

On top of this triad of patriotic colors, think about the patterning of the American flag – stars and stripes! One hot tip we received: When you’re including stars, make sure they’re never on the bottom of the wreath, but towards the top! This is proper flag etiquette.

You can start to take your patriotic decorating to the next level with some additional symbolism. Incorporate an American Eagle, Uncle Sam, the Constitution, fireworks imagery, or inspiring American words, phrases, or lyrics. For example “Home of the Free and the Brave” is a popular choice. (One of the best ways to incorporate some of this imagery is with our Character Board and vinyl decals! More on that later.)

How to Make a Patriotic Wreath

One thing we love about decorating for Memorial Day and the 4 of July is that as long as you use Red, White, and Blue, you have a lot of flexibility. You can create just about any kind of design and it will immediately feel ramped up for great for American patriotism. By working with these colours, you’ve actually got a lot of room for creativity.

That means that you don’t actually have to make it a specific way, unless you prefer to follow a very specific tutorial. You could just use the classic American colors and let your imagination and creativity run wild! Add some stars and stripes to take it to the next level, and you’re golden!
